Scared to death

This is what the blurb has to say:

A serial killer murdering for kicks. A detective seeking revenge. When the body of a snatched schoolgirl is found in an abandoned biosciences building, the case is first treated as a kidnapping gone wrong. But Detective Kay Hunter isn’t convinced, especially when a man is found dead with the ransom money still in his possession. When a second schoolgirl is taken, Kay’s worst fears are realised. With her career in jeopardy and desperate to conceal a disturbing secret, Kay’s hunt for the killer becomes a race against time before he claims another life. For the killer, the game has only just begun…

Well, I haven't read any of Rachels novels before, so as always, I go into these books with a completely open mind. I finished it however with completely high expectations for the next one.

The story begins with Tony and Yvonne. A couple holidaying in Europe return home to find their seventeen year old daughter missing.

This is where we are introduced to Detective Kay Hunter. When she joins the case, Kay and her team are shocked & horrified by what they find at the scene where a body of a young girl is found. When another young girl goes missing they know they have to be quick, they can't afford to lose time or get this wrong. This sets them off on a fast paced thriller of a story that draws you in from the start and will make your heart quicken

As the story progresses, we are given snippets of Kays life, from work and home, and we begin to understand what makes her tick. Whats happened to make her who she is?

I personally really enjoyed this book. The story was well thought out and engaging. Well structured and flowing. The main players were well rounded and our Detective was given an excellent depth of character. Rachel has a brilliant writing style that is guaranteed to enthral every reader.

So, would I recommend this novel? Yes, in one of my many quickening heartbeats, that this novel left me with, yes.
