No safe home is the second novel by the truly talented Tara Lyons.

In this book we are re-acquainted with D.I. Denis Hamilton and his team and i for one am so pleased to see him back. D.I. Hamilton is portrayed in No safe home with more humility than he's had before. We find out more about his home life, circumstance and past. All of which goes to make him a more well rounded and likeable man. A man who is shown to be a little bit damaged and for that reason alone, i find him more relatable. A man who commands and deserves the respect of his team and the reader.

Now, the prologue. Well, what can be said other than spine-tingling and positively goose bump inducing. Although if i'm truly honest, that could apply to most of the story, this being a taster of things to come.

This isn't just a one trick story, oh no, it's far more complex than that. In the first instance we have a dead teenage girl, found in her bedroom, a suspected drug obverdose. The implications and tone of the death ring far too close to home for the D.I.'s liking.

In the D.I's second case he has single mothers found dead in their homes, a suspected serial killer on the loose, a killer with the same m.o.

We also have Katy. A single working mum, doing the best she can to support and hide herself and her son. Always worrying, always checking, double checking even her every action and movements. She likes routine and familiarity.

Is Katy safe? Can D.I. Hamilton cope with the changes to his team? Can he deal with his own personal demons in order to carry on?

This is a fabulous, engaging and gritty novel. And i can say, i'm already looking forward to book 3.
