Before I Let You In

This weeks post is all about the new novel by Jenny Blackhurst- Before i let you in.

This is what the blurb had to say....

BEFORE I LET YOU IN is the brand new novel from Jenny Blackhurst, the #1 Kindle bestselling author of HOW I LOST YOU, which Clare Mackintosh called 'utterly gripping'. If you don't know who is walking through the door, how do you know if you should let them in? Perfect for fans of Louise Jensen's THE SISTER and Tracy Buchanan's NO TURNING BACK, Linda Green and B. A. Paris.Karen is meant to be the one who fixes problems. It's her job, as a psychiatrist - and it's always been her role as a friend. But Jessica is different. She should be the patient, the one that Karen helps. But she knows things about Karen. Her friends, her personal life. Things no patient should know. And Karen is starting to wonder if she should have let her in . .

Now what were my thoughts on it? Honestly? Bloody brilliant! What an absolutely stunning second novel. With the style of writing and the depth and quality of the prose you'd swear a more experienced author had written it. All credit to Jenny Blackhurst here, just superb. The story is told around three friends, Karen, Bea and Eleanor. They have been friends all their lives and their friendship has endured and evolved. But, can it last?

The story has you intrigued from the beginning. You meet Karen, in her psychiatrists office. She has a new patient due in, Jessica, a self referral. Upon talking to her Karen becomes uneasy. What is it about Jessica that makes her feel this way? Why does this girl know more about her and her friends than she should? Karen is now having her own personal battle, does she tell her friends and break the patients confidentiality or keep it to herself and carry on?I felt more drawn to Eleanor on a personal level as i know from experience what it's like having a young family around and trying to juggle the plates.Eleanor at the minute, isn't coping well. With an eight year old son and Noah, her newborn baby to look after, her husband working late, she's finding it hard to cope. It's completely different to her old, organised life.Bea. Now Bea's problems are more past events that have left an indelible mark on her and is affecting her life to this day. Her status as a singleton is something she's come to terms with. She has a strained relationship with her older sister Fran, Fran having reservations about her friends. The story unfolds in layers, each chapter you read has you understanding something a bit more and some..Aaah, that's why! moments and plenty of Woah....didn't see that coming gasps as well. The character development was brilliant. Well thought out, all well rounded and believable.By the time i finished this book i was drained, my head was spinning and i was left reeling. I did not see it coming!Everything i love in a book. Drawn in and felt everything. This book is one that has stayed with me, and had me wondering at 2am if i had locked my door......Just click on the pic below to enjoy this psychological thriller, guaranteed to keep you wanting more...
