Father of Lies

Here is my review of Father of Lies, the first in this dark trilogy.

Here is what the blurb has to say:

A Darkly Disturbing Occult Horror Novel Ruby is the most violently disturbed patient ever admitted to Drummersgate Asylum, high on the bleak moors of northern England. After two years with no improvement in her condition, Dr. Jack McGowan eventually decides to hypnotise her. With terrifying consequences. A horrific dark force is now unleashed on the entire medical team, as each in turn attempts to unlock Ruby's shocking and sinister past. Who is this girl? And how did she manage to survive such evil? Set in a desolate ex-mining village, where secrets are tightly kept and incomers hounded out, their questions soon lead to a haunted mill...the heart of darkness...and The Father of Lies. Sleep tight!

Here are my thoughts:

This is a dark horror novel that is densely packed with the ill, the insane, the satanic and the occult. Brilliant! Already i'm loving this. It is based around an asylum, set in the north of England. Around the area that i know well enough, to be able to familiarise myself in my head with the scenery and not without just a little help from the descriptive prowess of the author. With Sarahs' skill with the pen, you will be able to fully appreciate all that is happe

ning in the book.

It is clear to me from the beginning that this is clearly an author who has done her research into the subject matter involved and done it well. Right from the off with her lyrical way with words, the descriptions given of the Dr. and what happens after he tries to help his patient Ruby is literally, chilling, goosebumps and hair up on the back of the neck chilling! Now, Ruby. A girl in the asylum, seems incapable of any coherent speech, lost in her own thoughts and unresponsive to any and all treatment administered in her time at Drummersgate Asylum. Dr. Jack McGowan has one last plan, one last roll of the dice to help her. But no-one is prepared for what is about to happen....least of all you, the reader.

I read a lot of horrors, ghost stories, paranormal etc...and the only ones that have stayed with me like this one has are The Shining by Stephen King and an old 1970's book of true ghost stories that i was given many, many years ago. This trilogy is truly stunning.
