New Horizons
Here for you today i have my review of New Horizons. New Horizons is the third instalment in the Sisterhood series, (The Sisterhood, then endings and Beginnings) Over the last 6 months i have quickly become one of Roz Whites' biggest fans. I so enjoy her work and i love what she is doing for all transgendered people. By bringing the subject to the fore and helping to make people understand this. Which, in my honest opinion, she manages with great aplomb in all of her novels. Each book showing the difficulties faced, and how general, everyday things are made so much harder, just by the attitude of others around them.
Now, this is what the blurb says:
THEY SAY THAT LIFE IS A JOURNEY,
For the transwomen of the sisterhood, that journey seems strewn with rocks and obstacles!
After Sarahs revelations in Endings & Beginnings, she now faces the task of trying to rebuild her life, even as she comes to realise that so much of it is never going to satisfy her anymore. JO also faces upheaval as events sweep her up in a torrent she seems unable-or perhaps unwilling?- to resist; even for Cathy and Phoebe as they settle into sharing a house, there are upsets, problems and changes all around. And Naomi? Whilst calm and unruffled on the surface, what is else is going on to cause her sleepless nights where she lies awake with worry?
Above all, as the five try to navigate their life's troubled waters, is there even a glimpse of better times on the horizon to spur them on?
After finishing the second novel i was left eagerly anticipating the release of the next book in the series. This is a series that has taken me by surprise and at the same time, in the best possible way, captivated me. Over the last 6 months, as i have read each book, i have found myself becoming inextricably entwined with the ladies lives and their stories.
When i started this i already cared about them and what was going on. I began the story with anticipation and trepidation, hoping for good things. Did i find those? Oh Yes. I personally love slipping into these stories, it's like catching up with old friends. Due to the brilliant writing style that Roz has, you genuinely feel as though you are there with them, drinking wine on the sofa, having a chat at lunch, out on the dance floor....well, you get the idea. This book goes into further detail about each woman, now we know their own personalities and what they've been through, this book delves that bit further. I particularly enjoyed Jo's storyline in this, for at this moment she is genuinely happy. And after what she's been through, she deserves it. This book is genuine & funny. Above all it's honest. As i've said before, i would recommend these to everyone. Even if it's out of your usual genre, or your normal comfort zone, this is definitely one of those to dip your toe into. This particular book is my favourite so far. I begrudged every time i had to put this down to do something else. I read it greedily each time i picked it back up as i wanted, nay, needed to know what was happening. I didn't want to be left behind. So once again Roz, i must congratulate you on a truly fantastic piece of work.
Bring on the next!.....
