The Killer Next Door - Audio
I've not listened to anything by this author before picking this title, well, WOW! What a one to pick to pop my Alex Marwood cherry.
To be honest, it was initially the cover that drew my attention, i was scrolling through and just something about it caught my eye. The title is intriguing. My initial thought, the one thing that sprung to mind, was the old saying "You never really know what goes on behind closed doors". The cover coupled with the title was enough to convince me to buy it.
I'm so pleased i did. The narrator performed the character voices well, and believe me, there was a truly eclectic mix of characters to do.
The story itself is a tale of a group of the most unlikely people, who find themselves living side by side in a house of multiple occupancy. Their own unfortunate circumstances bringing them together at this point in each of their lives.
From Vesta, an elderly lady who has lived in the same place since her birth. In fact, she literally was born there. To 15 y/o Cheryl, a runaway from Liverpool. Hossain, who has lost his wife and finds himself alone in a foreign country, able but not allowed to work by the government. Collette, or is she really? not able to stay in one place for long, but tired of moving on all the time. A landlord who isn't interested in anything except lining his own pockets and the quiet neighbour, with his constant music playing.
The author has done a fabulous job in providing the listener with enough detail and background to make you interested and care.
With all this going on behind the same door, do you really know your neighbour?
Wonderfully written, a great storyline. Beautifully descriptive and great narrative. A 4* listen from me and i've already downloaded my next Alex Marwood to listen too.
