Unquiet Souls
Unquiet Souls: a crime thriller you won't be able to put down.
"A must read for all crime fiction fans."
Book Description:
What is the link between the abduction of a little girl and a dead prostitute?
When the body of a prostitute is found, followed by the discovery of children locked in an attic, DI Gus McGuire is handed the case. But what at first appears to be a simple murder soon turns into an international manhunt for the members of a twisted child trafficking ring.
McGuire who is suffering with his own emotional problems, must pick his way through the web of deceit and uncover the truth in time before the body count rises.
Can McGuire identify The Matchmaker before it’s too late? And can he trust those he is working with?
Unquiet Souls is the first book in a dark and compelling new police series.
The lead character in this story is D.I. Gus Mcguire. An officer who has just returned to work after suffering a life-changing event. He has ongoing emotional and physical issues, that come up frequently in the novel. This is necessary however to the fabric of the story. The backdrop is Bradford. Now, even if you haven't been there yourself, the author does such a cracking job with the description of various areas it won't be hard to envisage itThe subject of the story is a bit harder to deal with, child trafficking, paedophile rings, murder & corruption at the highest. I've never before read a novel dealing with this subject and I found the author tackled it head on and with the sincerity it deserves, indeed, demands. Liz Mistry does such a good job with the telling of whats happening, you find yourself frequently with chills whilst reading, but for oh so many different reasons. There is a varied and diverse cast of characters, all with their own personalities which shine through. It is a complex story, but not complicated. I thought i had it figured out, i was close, so very close. But no, was still wrong in the end in my own deductions. This is the first book in what promises to be an exciting new crime series, with D.I. Gus Mcguire leading it. I love the team that the author has given him and i can't wait to see more from them all and i look forward to actually getting to know them better. This is a book that is well written and definitely involves you right from the start. It pulls you in and drops you down right in the very centre of the story. It makes it impossible to not feel in some way emotionally connected. It's a hard book to say "Yes, i enjoyed that one." In the sense that, i felt wrong enjoying it due to the awful nature of the subject matter. However, i did enjoy the authors writing style. It was easy to follow and both the characters and story had depth. The storyline, although hard to read at times, was all to easy to imagine and apply to what is happening around us. It forces the reader to acknowledge that this sort of thing can and does happen on an all to regular basis and for me, although written as a work of fiction, has raised the awareness in my mind of the child trafficking that happens daily. And as this shows, not just here but across the world. So, would i recommend this book? Absolutely! Any writer that can deal with this subject matter as sympathetically as Liz Mistry has done here and make it an entertaining work of fiction deserves to be praised and acknowledged. So thank you, and i look forward to the next.
