Watching the bodies

The Synopsis:

When Jake Boulder is asked by his PI friend to help investigate the vicious murder of Kira Niemeyer, he soon finds himself tracking a serial killer who selects his next victim in a most unusual manner.

As the body count rises, Boulder has to work with the police to identify the heinous killer before more lives are taken. What ensues is a twisted game of cat and mouse, that only Boulder or the Watcher can survive.

My Thoughts:

Well, i appear to be late to the party when it comes to Graham Smith. I confess right now that i haven't read anything else by this author. Please don't all shout at me at once, i know, i know....how could i possibly have missed him?!?! Well, if this book is anything to go by it's something i am going to rectify as soon as i finish this post...promise!

If it wasn't made clear in that first paragraph i shall tell you now. I freakin' loved this book! Ohhhh, how i wish that i could meet a real life #JakeBoulder.

Jake is a Scotsman, working in Casperton, a small town in America. He works as a bouncer and is well suited to the job. A large, strong, fit man who holds a controlled underlying rage, makes him one of the best in the business.

Jake is a brilliantly written character. He has a well rounded personality and a depth to him that makes him relatable and more importantly, believable.

He is generally a bit of a loner, he's more than happy relaxing by himself with a good book.

He does however have a great friendship with Alfonse Devereaux. Jake and Alfonse sometimes work together as private investigators, and this is what brings them together in this story.

They have been hired by the father of Kira Niemeyer to find her killer. The father has no faith whatsoever in the abilities (or lack of) in the local police force.

Enter Jake and Alfonse. Whilst investigating they uncover some secrets that Kira had kept hidden, do they have anything to do with her demise? When other bodies start to turn up, it takes on a darker turn.

This is an extremely clever story. Well written with a killer that is one of the smartest and most twisted i've met. The story drags you along from the start and pulls you right into the thick of it. It's a compelling read, one that, for many reasons , i couldn't put down.

I'm usually a bit unsure when it comes to the American cop type story. But this is nothing like what i had expected. The author, Graham, has obviously done a lot of research before putting pen to paper and that shows throughout the story. And with Jake Boulder and this book he has given us a series that promises to be #awesome #amazing #exciting and anything else you can think of. I'm so looking forward to book number 2!

In the meantime, i am now heading over to Amazon for a look at his previous works....
