Wow! Just.....wow! Kerry Fisher has yet again given us a heartbreaking, gut wrenching read that will bring a lump to your throat and a tear to your eye. Beautifully written, and highly emotive. I love it!After all these years can she let her secret go? Can she rely on her family for help? This book deals with a family that is shaped over decades by one decision made by Susie, Danny's wife and mother to Louise & Grace. Every celebration and anniversary, special days and events have been marked by a sadness that is Susie's alone. This book deals with subjects that were, in the 1960's completely glossed over. As it was at the time, things that were swept under the carpet and barely acknowledged, let alone discussed. Sex, marriage, rape and the results of this. The awful conditions of being sent away and the resulting emotional turmoil and the damage that is done psychologically as a result. This is a novel that really did pull at my heart strings. As a reader, a wife and a mother, i couldn't help but put myself in Susie's shoes. And i can tell you know, it evoked real, intense feelings in myself. My heart went out to her, my chest was heavy and i had a headache from trying not to cry. Now THAT is all down to the talent of such an accomplished writer, who has the ability tho give us such a vivid picture. A truly profound novel that i will be recommending to all.
Susie loves her husband and daughters immensely and this shows in the beautiful writing of the author. The last thing she wants to do is hurt them. So she holds her secret close to her heart........until the unthinkable happens.
